The British Empire Always Encountered Difficulty Distinguishing Between Its Heroes and Its Monsters!
The Kerberos Club is a FATE role playing game of superheroic action and intrigue. The setting is an alternate Victorian London where the British Empire has been touched by the incredible and often awful “Strangeness”. This euphemistic expression is used to describe every manner of weird and uncanny influence, inspired by the gothic horror, scientific romance and fairy tales of the day, the superhero genres of the modern era, and by the real history of the period.
As the Throne of Empire, Victoria’s London is considered by its peoples to be the center of the world. It is huge and a true metropolis of varied ethnicities and cultures, all nestled in an ancient city filled with dread and wonders. Londons first subway stations opened in 1861. Zeppeliners dock at tall Sky towers, connecting major cities of the country and beyond. The Crimean war ended in 1859, Russian and Bulgaria was defeated by the British, but unrest still prowls in Eastern Europe. Gaslighting became a norm in London in 1860, only in the richer areas though. The dark alleyways of London proper are considered the most dangerous areas of any city in the western world. Crime is at an all time high. Burglers, robbers, killers and more than 16,000 prostitutes proves this point.
The Kerberos Club itself is a “gentleman’s club” of dubious reputation, and known for its scandalous ideas, like that of treating women, foreigners, the poor and even the Irish as human beings. The Club is home to any number of individuals touched by the Strange, and possessed of eerie powers. It is a way for these people, frequently outcasts from society, to band together – and also to serve the Crown, defending Queen and Country from Strange threats that loom or lurk.
When the victims and enthusiasts of magic and bizarre science meet in an infamous club for “the Strange,” thrilling action is sure to follow!
